This initiative explores scalable, community-tailored interventions to improve reproductive and pelvic health outcomes and translates those insights into care pathways, digital tools, and training models that empower clinicians and patients alike.

Integrate AI and digital health tools — including Heidi Health AI, MediRecords, Lumicare One, and GE Healthcare — for seamless patient flow and data capture. The project enhances patient education and engagement including pre-appointment health literacy, improves clinical workflow efficiency, reduces unnecessary interventions, and ensures equity, cultural safety, and accessibility for priority groups (CALD, First Nations, rural/regional women). Pathway effectiveness, patient experience, and digital integration are under ongoing evaluation.

Evaluating a co-designed management plan for endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain to reduce diagnosis delays and streamline referrals.
WHR is participating in the evaluation of a newly co-designed Management Plan for Endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. The study aims to facilitate the diagnosis and management of symptoms, align with consumer and clinician needs, and achieve high utility in primary care. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care as part of the National Action Plan for Endometriosis.

Co-creating an interactive decision tool for GPs to improve diagnosis and management of endometriosis in primary practice.
This research project aims to develop a co-created, interactive decision aid for general practitioners to support diagnosis and management of endometriosis. WHR is participating in co-creation workshops and will test the prototype tool in GP consultations once developed.

Systematic review of ultrasound imaging in HMB, mapping the current care pathway, and exploring AI integration opportunities.
This project conducts a brief systematic review of ultrasound imaging to provide insights into diagnostic accuracy, performs a mapping exercise to understand the current care pathway for women living with HMB, and explores opportunities for AI integration to improve clinical workflows and patient outcomes.

Developing a clinically validated HMB screening tool integrable with digital health systems for improved assessment and research data.
To understand the literature surrounding the strengths and limitations of existing HMB screening tools, and to develop a screening tool that can be used in clinical settings and integrated with digital health systems. The aim is to screen for HMB and bleeding disorders in women and adolescents.

Comparing AI-reported and clinician ultrasound findings with histopathology to assess diagnostic accuracy in Abnormal Uterine Bleeding.
Comparing clinician- and AI-reported ultrasound findings with histopathology results in patients with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) to assess diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. The project leverages existing AI features within ultrasound equipment to streamline post-scan decision-making, enabling real-time diagnosis and management pathways. Includes analysis of endometrial thickness vascularity using Doppler scoring.

Adapting an AI-powered consultation model for Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi-speaking women experiencing HMB in Australia.
This study implements and adapts an AI-powered menstrual health consultation model for culturally and linguistically diverse women in Australia — specifically Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi-speaking communities — who experience heavy menstrual bleeding. Building on co-designed AI-scribe consultation tools trialled in English-speaking pathways, the project tailors content and consultation experience to enhance engagement and management of HMB in underrepresented communities.

Improved coding will facilitate accurate data collection, appropriate funding allocation, and more effective service planning for women with HMB.

Documenting how iron profile reference ranges differ across Australian pathology labs and the impact of gender-specific versus gender-neutral intervals on diagnosis.
This project documented how iron profile reference ranges (ferritin, serum iron, TIBC, and transferrin saturation) differ across pathology laboratories in Australian states, recording whether each laboratory uses gender-specific or gender-neutral reference intervals and examining the diagnostic impact — particularly for iron deficiency in women. The project engaged stakeholders to explore standardisation opportunities nationally. Published August 2025 — resulting in a new national standard across labs for all genders.

WHR is partnering with Macquarie University Hospital to create a seamless referral and surgical coordination pathway, ensuring timely, data-informed surgical care for women requiring escalation from community-based care to hospital settings. The first stage focuses on referral and booking, with integration across MediRecords and EpiSoft.

New National standard for iron profile reference ranges published - covering all genders across Australian pathology laboratories
WHR's iron profile mapping project resulted in a landmark publication establishing a new consistent national standard for iron reference ranges across Australian pathology labs. The research identified significant variation in gender-specific versus gender-neutral reference intervals and their downstream diagnostic impact, particularly for women with iron deficiency. Led by Talat Uppal, Faryal, and the WHRAI team in collaboration with DHM.
